Preventing Extinction Fund is accepting proposals on a rolling basis and there is no deadline for application!
The Preventing Extinction Fund provides grants to local Civil Society Organizations focused on securing protection for species at the highest risk of extinction across the tropics and subtropics. Applications endorsed by IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) or World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) Groups will be viewed favourably.

PTES will be accepting new applications for Conservation Insight Grants by Sunday 20th August 2023
The Conservation Insight Grants are for projects focusing on endangered species for up to two years. PTES awards funds between £3,000 and £10,000 per annum up to a maximum total of £20,000.

George and Mary Rabb Fellowship call for applications will be open until 1st September 2023
This fellowship supports early or mid-career scientists and conservationists in research-based professional development that furthers amphibian conservation. The fellowship carries a $5,000 stipend and is open to applicants from all countries.

Franklinia opens call for project proposal in Southeast Asia, submission deadline is 10th September 2023
Project proposals must focus on in-situ conservation of globally threatened trees and must be submitted using three template forms (project proposal, budget and logical framework) that can be downloaded from this page.

SSC EDGE Internal Grant & Madagascar Grant will be open between 31st August - 30th September 2023
On the Edge is contributing financial support totalling US$100,000 to be distributed across projects related to SSC Groups and evolutionarily distinct species and lineages. Activities related to red List assessments, research activities, development of conservation action plans and also policy initiatives.

Third Calls For Proposals for the Fondation Segré Conservation Action Fund is now open
This year’s Call for Proposals specifically supports the conservation of threatened Freshwater Decapods, Freshwater Fishes, Freshwater Molluscs and all Odonates. This fund offers two categories of grants, 1) Conservation Action Grants of a maximum grant of EUR 50,000 and 2) Research Support Grants of a maximum grant of EUR 7,000.

Whitley Fund for Nature offers laddered funding for conservation projects through the Whitley Awards, Continuation Funding, and the Whitley Gold Award. Review the eligibility guidelines and apply before the deadline at midnight GMT on 31 October 2023.

SSC Internal Grant Results
ACT - Training of rangers for the double observer estimator method to monitor tamaraw population at MIBNP
Partially funded in 2019, the project led by the IUCN SSC Asian Wild Cattle SG and d'Aboville Foundation aimed to collect information on the presence of endemic and endangered species such as the Mindoro Warty Pig (Sus oliveri), Black Hooded Coucal (Centropus steerii), or long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis philippinensis) in Siburan forest in Aruyan-Malati, Philippines. The results highlighted that the tamaraw is still present in the area, with proof of reproduction. However, the number of animals seems very small (<15) and the tamaraw population in this isolated site is definitely not viable. 8 tamaraw rangers were trained in using camera traps and implementing scientific protocols, including rapid habitat assessment. Data collected strengthens evidence in the process to proclaim the area as “Critical Habitat” for tamaraw. The process is ongoing.

COMMUNICATE - IUCN SSC Anteater, Sloth and Armadillo Specialist Group renewed its communications channels
The group revamped the website, the newsletter and created a new youtube channel with a series of educational videos. The Edentata newsletter is dedicated to publishing articles on Xenarthra, relevant to conservation. These channels help the group share information and stimulate exchange among Xenarthra researchers. The newsletter contains key information to keep IUCN Red List assessments up to date. You are invited to review and share these amazing videos here.
NETWORK - The IUCN SSC Pangolin Specialist Group convened its members to strengthen the network for the upcoming years
Funded in 2019, the project aimed to develop the Group’s vision and strategic plan for 2019-2030, emphasizing science, issues and urgent solutions for pangolin conservation. The meeting also brought together the West African Regional Chairs and two key regional partners: USAID West African Biodiversity and Low Emissions Development program (WABiLED) and Fauna & Flora International (FFI) to discuss regional priorities and work plan for West Africa for the four-year period. The result was the approval of the first draft of the regional work plan, which will be ready by the end of 2023 for effect 2024.

Conservation Strategy and Action Plan for the Talaud Bear Cuscus
Learn more about Talaud Bear Cuscus (Ailurops melanotis), classified as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List. The project was led by Sheherazade and Asnim Alyoihana Lanusi, Co-Executive Directors of PROGRES (Sulawesi Regional Ecological Conservation Initiative), a Sulawesi-based conservation NGO. Sheherazade is also a member of the IUCN SSC Australasian Marsupial and Monotreme Specialist Group. In collaboration with local communities, village government, and government agencies namely BKSDA Sulawesi Utara and Dinas Kehutanan Sulawesi Utara, they have successfully established the first long-term conservation program of Talaud Cuscus on Salibabu Island, one of the last strongholds of the species in Sangihe-Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
