In December 2022, the IUCN SSC Southern African Plant Specialist Group organized a workshop to assess Eswatini's endemic flora. Kate Braun led the team in creating a catalogue of 59 Eswatini’s endemic plants. A preliminary document was produced, containing descriptions, illustrations and distribution maps, which is available online here. The team will continue to conduct Red List assessments, finalizing the evaluations conducted thus far, and examining cross-border species with restricted distributions found in Eswatini but not yet evaluated. Members of the IUCN SSC Medicinal Plants Specialist Group (MPSG) came together with CITES Parties, IUCN, FAO, UNCTAD BioTrade, and TRAFFIC to discuss new and creative ways to manage and sustain the trade of CITES-listed medicinal and aromatic plants. These decisions provide a special chance for stakeholders to work together throughout the trade chains. The outcomes of the analysis were taken on board by the Parties. The Primate SG was partially financed in January 2023 to facilitate a workshop on the Brown Howler Monkey (Alouatta guariba), a Critically Endangered endemic species of the Atlantic Forest of Brazil and Argentina. Yellow fever and habitat loss are its main threats, and there are less than 50 individuals in the wild in Argentina. The National Action Plan for the Conservation of Primates in Argentina workshop was held the past April 24-26, with the facilitation of CSS Brazil, CSS Argentina and the National Center for Research and Conservation of Brazilian Primates (CPB/ICMBio) and had the participation of government representatives and experts from Argentina and Brazil , NGOs, park rangers, security forces, secretaries of health and climate change. The event was declared of legislative interest by the House of Representatives of the Province of Misiones.
