IUCN SSC adds two new Centers for Species Survival
The Shedd Aquarium and Morton Arboretum were named Centers for Species Survival, making the city of Chicago, EE.UU., an international leader in biodiversity conservation. The new Centers will work to protect endangered species and their habitats through research, conservation efforts, and educational initiatives.

Experts gather to address human-wildlife conflict
The first-ever Global Human-Wildlife Conflict Summit was held from March 30th to April 1st, 2023 in Oxford, UK, bringing together experts from around the world to discuss solutions for managing and reducing conflicts between humans and wildlife. As part of this event, a publication was also released to support urgently-needed national policies and actions on the ground.

Best Practices Guidelines. Marine Specialist Groups: experiences and examples
After conducting interviews with 23 marine group leaders, the Best Practices Guidelines were recently published. The document outlines how to effectively establish and manage an SSC Group, utilizing examples and experiences from Marine Specialist Groups. The guidelines offer valuable insights that can be applied to other biological realms, taxonomies, or disciplines. 
 Assessments, Planning and Action for Conservation of Species and Ecosystems at Multiple Spatial Scales
The latest special issue of "Diversity" focuses on the Species Conservation Cycle, a conceptual framework developed by the IUCN SSC to provide a structured approach to the scientific network of species conservation experts. This special issue features 18 articles, authored by 209 experts from 55 countries and territories, providing valuable insights and research on the topic.

Trophic rewilding can expand natural climate solutions
Have a look at this interesting paper on how protecting and restoring wild animals and their functional roles can enhance natural carbon capture and storage. The authors emphasize the need for innovative strategies that prioritize the conservation and restoration of wild animals and their ecosystem roles as a crucial component of natural climate solutions, which can increase the ability to prevent global warming beyond 1.5 °C. This publication was supported by the Global Rewilding Alliance, the Wild Foundation, One Earth, Rewilding Europe and Re:wild.

Trophy hunting situational analysis
The IUCN SSC/CEESP Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group want to gather information on legal hunting for recreation and mementoes. You can contribute by completing a simple form [find it here] and sharing a country or regional overview, or an interesting case study.
EDGE Protected and Conserved Area Fund
The EDGE Protected and Conserved Fund is a bold new US$ 5,000,000 partnership to protect and conserve habitat for the world’s most threatened and evolutionarily distinct species. It is a partnership between Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, On The Edge Conservation, Re:wild, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, Synchronicity Earth and the Zoological Society of London with funding provided by Rainforest Trust. 
Applications are due by 08 May 2023.

Indianapolis Zoo Saving Species Challenge
The Indianapolis Zoo is offering a $1 million grant to one organization that can create and implement a plan to improve the status of an animal species on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The winner will have five years to activate the program and show progress, with the results to be announced in February 2024. Eligibility and application details can be found on the Indianapolis Zoo website.
