A distribution map is required supporting information for assessments submitted for publication on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™. The IUCN Red List website includes guidelines that explain the format and data requirements for distribution maps (the Mapping Standards and Data Quality for IUCN Red List Spatial Data). But how do you actually prepare a map? In this webinar, Clayton Meredith and Ana Walker (Albuquerque Biopark) will use some of the commonly available mapping tools and software to demonstrate how to prepare distribution maps for IUCN Red List assessments, including:
Data sources which may be useful.
Tools for calculating Extent Of Occurrence.
Resources for basic map preparation tutorials using a variety of GIS platforms.
Interested, but can’t attend? Don’t worry – all the IUCN Red List webinars will be recorded and the recordings will be made available on the IUCN Red List website.
