Architect and Professor of urban and regional planning at  Turin Polytechnic from 1981 to 2010, Prof. Gambino devoted an important part of his research activity to protected area planning and management policies.

Lamington National Park, traditional land of the Danggan Balun (Five Rivers) People, is part of the World Heritage Site, Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. Volunteers help on weekends and school holidays at Visitor Centres, and undertake revegetation and fund-raising for projects in the park.

The IUCN WCPA Task Force on Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) held its fourth meeting on the island of Vilm (Germany) in June. A major focus of the meeting was the further development of the OECM Assessment Methodology, to help rights-holders and stakeholders to recognize, report and support OECMs.

The Action Component of the BIOPAMA programme is currently accepting proposals for medium grants. The Action Component addresses priorities for action, supporting activities on the ground for strengthening the management effectiveness and governance of protected and conserved areas. IUCN will work on a new partnership for the IUCN Green List in the Amazon with support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Andes-Amazon Initiative. IUCN will promote the Green List Standard that describes and encourages fair and effective conservation in the Amazon region.

The IUCN World Conservation Congress provides a platform for scientists, policy experts, business and government leaders and professionals from around the globe to come together to share their latest insights and forge new partnerships. IUCN Members work to define the global conservation agenda and collaborate with Congress participants to find solutions to the pressing environmental challenges our planet is facing.

The report "The New Lion Economy" was launched on World Lion Day on 10 August 2019. Lions and their landscapes are a major part of Africa’s lifeblood indicator. Facing a catastrophic decline in lion population and habitat, this report is the first to look in detail at the wider ecosystem services lions and "lionscapes" provide.
