Next year will be a critical year for nature and for all of humanity. Governments and businesses worldwide are revising their commitments to nature and moving climate pledges into action. We need your help to make sure actions are strong, ambitious and scientifically sound to drive the change the world needs. As you know, getting nature right is a prerequisite for achieving the vision of a more prosperous, healthy and equitable world by 2030.
We know conservation works. The IUCN World Conservation Congress is where the world comes together to set conservation and sustainable development priorities and to mobilise action to reach them. The IUCN Congress 2020 comes just four months before the world’s governments meet for the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in China to agree on new commitments for protecting and restoring biodiversity. As the largest marketplace of conservation and sustainable development expertise and the only international conservation forum which brings governments, civil society and indigenous peoples’ organisations to the same table to take decisions, the IUCN Congress is a crucial opportunity to influence the conversation going into China in a meaningful way. So from 11-19 June 2020, please join IUCN’s 1300+ government, civil society and indigenous peoples’ Member organisations and thousands of influencers, scientists, policy experts, business leaders and professionals from around the globe in Marseille, France for the IUCN Congress. President Macron is making the IUCN Congress a major part of France’s efforts to galvanise global momentum for nature, and we hope you will make it a priority in your efforts as well.
I look forward to seeing you in Marseille. Warm regards, Zhang Xinsheng IUCN President |
