PANORAMA has received a major new funding commitment: Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), will invest two million Euros to support the secretariat in strategic direction for the next five years.

This is a great stamp of approval from the BMU, already the main and major PANORAMA development partner, in cementing the value of this work now and in the future.

You conservationists have a community, an international space for the problems you have conquered, a way to find how others have solved their conservation conundrums, which gives the building blocks to answer their current and future issues. This is PANORAMA, and we celebrate reaching more than 555 comprehensive solutions stored within reach of your fingertips.

How private financing can support nature conservation

• An introductory presentation on private finance, and update on the Coalition for Private Investment in Conservation, by Frank Hawkins, Director of the IUCN Washington office
• Lessons on mobilising green finance and useful resources that anyone can access for their own projects, with Romie Goedicke from IUCN Netherlands Committee
• Finally, a case study looking at how an organisation has successfully mobilised finance within the shea value chain in Northern Ghana, by A Rocha Ghana.

The thematic communities Agriculture and biodiversity and Business engagement cooperated to propose solutions on how to mobilise actors to create sustainable agriculture value chains.

Using a webinar Working with the agriculture sector to enhance nature, the communities highlighted the importance of knowing and understanding the mechanisms that trigger behavioural changes, in order to meet positive results. The webinar connected theories to practical case studies, making it easy for the audience to understand and replicate knowledge.

This innovative alliance in Mexico to help people adapt to climate change via mangrove rehabilitation & income diversification has received over 10,000 views!

Congratulations to the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas, Mexico, for sharing this inspiring experience on partnerships between farmers, fishermen, government and scientists.

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has become a collaborating partner of PANORAMA. Together, we will identify and promote solutions which use the ecolabel and fishery certification program to contribute to the health of the world’s oceans.

Learn about MDPI - Yayasan Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia’s experience in supporting supply chain traceability in small-scale tuna fisheries.

Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas (ICCAs) are increasingly being recognized for their contributions to biodiversity conservation.

Fittingly, a project that has supported the establishment of such sites in the Philippines is the most viewed solution under PANORAMA’s Protected Areas thematic community.

Other creative ICCA solutions describe indigenous-led protection of watersheds in Amarakaeri Communal Reserve, Peru, and Kuruwitu LMMA in Kenya, a model for protection of fisheries and coastal ecosystems at local level.

The new Theme will focus on the role of culture in the conservation of nature and its interconnective qualities.

The new thematic community also touches on places valued for their cultural significance, across indigenous peoples’ territories, rural and coastal landscapes, seascapes and urban landscapes, but also on the wider spectrum of protected and conserved areas and its connection to culture.

The #IUCNcongress 2020 is a key element in a critical year for nature and all humanity, where the world comes together to set priorities and drive conservation and sustainable development action.

At the Forum, in a “Campus” event, you will see how a number of PANORAMA "flagship solutions” can be scaled up.

At the Exhibition, we will show solutions at the Protected Planet Pavilion, where participants can explore the web platform.

Also, PANORAMA Ambassadors will keep their ears open for inspiring approaches, while “solution providers” will present from their work places via video chat.
