The IUCN Leaders Forum Jeju 2022 closed with the resounding conclusion that the world must measure progress towards a nature-positive future. Today’s Closing Ceremony ended three days of high-level debate, and presented key outcomes including partnerships, commitments and a roadmap for the future.

The lagoon of Lac on Bonaire, on the southeastern side of the island, is a non-estuarine lagoon bordered by the largest and some of the wealthiest mangrove areas of the Dutch Caribbean. Despite their crucial role in providing coastal protection, supporting local livelihoods and storing vast amounts of carbon, the mangroves of Bonaire are under growing threat due to, among other things, overdevelopment and increased pressures of climate change.

A new report launched by the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management Programme (BIOPAMA) marks the first comprehensive regional assessment of protected and conserved areas in the Pacific region. It reviews and outlines the progress made towards achieving national and international targets for protected and conserved areas, including for coverage, representativeness, connectivity and effectiveness.

IUCN Junior Professional positions offer an exciting opportunity to gain experience working with IUCN, the leading global organisation on nature conservation.

The Junior Professional (JP) will work with the IUCN Protected and Conserved Areas Team (PCA Team) on global and regional priorities for fair and effective area-based nature conservation. They will help ensure close cooperation with national and sub-national partners to support on the ground project implementation.

This webinar will review the current status and future needs of Protected and Conserved Area (PCA) personnel in the light of the 30by30 ambitions. Members of a panel will present and discuss the main findings of newly published research on personnel numbers, examine initiatives to advance ranger professionalisation, and explore the diversity of new roles, approaches and types of support needed for effective management and stewardship of PCAs before 2030.

This webinar will share the outputs of a scoping project to identify simple, practical guidance to strengthen ranger-community relationships. The webinar will draw on the two scoping reports prepared so far: the first volume which includes a set of good practices for helping build trust between rangers, Indigenous Peoples and local communities. The second volume is a combination of case studies and stories from around the world.
