Dear, , The Fundão dam collapse in Mariana has set November 5, 2015, as one of the biggest environmental catastrophes in Brazil. As a consequence of the disaster, tons of mud spilt into the Rio Doce, killing 19 people, destroying houses and buildings, riverside vegetation, killing animals, and polluting the river to the sea. Six years later, we believe that the success of the restoration depends on collaboration and objective, technically grounded decisions and, above all, on an approach that can help bring together communities, businesses and government to build a shared vision for the future of the basin. The Rio Doce Panel is in solidarity with the communities, families and friends of the victims of this tragedy. |
