The IUCN World Conservation Congress is only one week away. As the world faces health, environmental, and economic crises, it is critical to come together to propel nature’s role in addressing these challenges. The IUCN Congress will provide essential insights addressing the climate and biodiversity crises, as well as focusing on nature-based recovery. Climate change is a main IUCN Congress theme, with sessions and events adding valuable momentum to the climate discussion ahead of COP26. Congress is also a major stepping-stone toward a global agreement for protecting biodiversity, and will focus on using nature as a foundation to build back better with nature-based recovery. The following reflections from IUCN Members highlight the importance of including indigenous peoples in protected areas management, climate change impacts on coastal erosion, and the need for restoring degraded lands. |
