When managed effectively, protected and conserved areas are a critical tool for biodiversity conservation and for safeguarding ecosystem services. There are also many socioeconomic benefits that are reaped by local communities in and around these areas. The messages and reflections below from IUCN Members address various types of protected and conserved areas, share success stories, and emphasise initiatives such as the goal to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030, which IUCN Members will discuss during the Congress in September. Managing landscapes for nature and people will be a major theme of the IUCN World Conservation Congress, with over 100 sessions focusing on protected and conserved areas. |
