NOTE FROM THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR Dear All, I hope you and your families are safe and well. You receive this newsletter at a time when we are facing a pandemic that has rapidly changed the way we live and interact. It is hard to live with uncertainty, that’s for sure. After all, we are experiencing what for most of us is unprecedented anxiety, frustration and disruption: mandated working from home, radically curtailed travel, and the whiplash of volatile financial markets. As COVID-19 manifests locally in our various settings in Africa, from systems thinking, it becomes clear we are faced with complexities of problems for which there is no simple or single answer. The IUCN vision of 'a just world that values and conserves nature' becomes critical and so are the ideals of bringing all the stakeholders to build a greater understanding of what we are faced with and what we can do collectively. We hope our collective experiences will strengthen our ambition for the future good of People and Nature. At IUCN, we believe that when people work together, amazing things can happen. In this newsletter, we share positive stories from various programmes in the region working to conserve nature. Read more below. Wishing you all good health and safety, Regards, Luther Bois Anukur Regional Director IUCN, Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office
