Dear ,
The IUCN World Conservation Congress concluded today in Abu Dhabi, setting a bold vision for nature conservation for the next 20 years. Over the past week, more than 10,000 participants, from governments, scientists, Indigenous Peoples, youth, civil society, and business leaders, came together to chart a collective path toward a nature-positive future.
The IUCN Members’ Assembly adopted the Abu Dhabi Call to Action, reaffirming the Union’s resolve to accelerate action for planet where nature and people thrive together. Members also re-elected Her Excellency Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak as IUCN President, and leaders across the Commissions and the Council. The Assembly adopted almost 150 Motions, each built on a story of collaboration and hope, proving that when the world unites for nature, progress follows.
Throughout the week, the Congress celebrated inclusion and innovation, from the first-ever World Summit of Indigenous Peoples and Nature to the welcoming of over 100 new Members, including six States. Major scientific announcements included the latest update of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™, European-level assessments of wild pollinators, and the 4th World Heritage Outlook report. Certified under the ISO 20121:2024 sustainability standard, the Congress demonstrated how global gatherings can inspire action while leading by example.
As the Congress closes, the message from Abu Dhabi rings clear, the solutions today’s crises already exist, and through collaboration, courage, and shared purpose, we thrive together. |
