Dear ,

Day two of the IUCN Congress opened with the update of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™, revealing growing threats to Arctic seals driven by climate change and a global decline in bird populations. The update also brought a note of hope, showing that the global green sea turtle population is recovering. Glacier resilience came into focus with the launch of the IUCN Glacier Action Network to advance global glacier conservation and adaptation.

The day also saw a celebration of Armenia as IUCN’s newest State Member, underscoring the country’s commitment to advancing biodiversity conservation and the nomination of the first IUCN Patron of Nature from Africa, Humphrey Kariuki. In the afternoon, the global conservation community gave a tribute to Dr Jane Goodall and her lifelong dedication to conservation, celebrating her compassion and hope.

The Business and Nature Summit opened today, aiming to inspire collective ambition to accelerate the transition toward nature-positive societies. The day ended with the launch of IUCN RHINO, a new approach to measure biodiversity contributions.
