Mapping equitable, effective paths to achieving 30x30

Amarakaeri Communal Reserve, Peru ©IUCN Green List

The Amarakaeri Communal Reserve (RCA) is located in the province of Manú, department of Madre de Dios. It is an inspiration as one of the first indigenous co-managed Green List sites in the world. This emblematic site showcases how indigenous communities are achieving exceptional nature conservation, with their territories being equally recognized for their social, cultural, and well-being contributions. The Harakmbut people have inhabited the forested Andean foothills in the Amazon basin for aeons. However, their co-management of their territory with the State Peruvian Protected Areas Agency, SERNANP, only began in 2002 through the Reserva Comunal Amarakaeri (RCA).
