Identification and assessment of fireflies in Western Ghats of Karnataka (WGK), South India.

A four-day firefly taxonomy training (March 9–12, 2024) was successfully conducted, involving 17 in-person participants and over 100 online attendees globally. Identification of specimens to the genus level was supported by experts overseas. A firefly network was established to gather data on occurrence, distribution, and threats such as light pollution, habitat loss, and climate change. The initiative also included training on bioluminescence spectrum studies and webinars with global participation, fostering awareness and

collaboration for firefly conservation. Further information here.

Lepiota luteophylla is a very rare fungus with specific habitat requirements. Despite its distinctive appearance and the extensive targeted surveys in appropriate habitat (including type locality) by mycologists, it is only known from a single site, one of the few remaining large-scale groves of Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) that have a well-developed duff layer. It is assessed as CR D
