Mapping equitable, effective paths to achieving 30x30

Cover photo: Beyond the Tree Line - Galeras Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, Colombia

The Galeras Flora and Fauna Sanctuary is a symbol of the Nariño department, featuring the Galeras volcano as its main attraction. This volcano is among the most active on the continent, with some of its calderas continuously emitting gases, while others, now extinct, bear witness to its historical activity. The Sanctuary is partly situated in a high-risk volcanic zone, being part of a larger volcanic complex. The protected area is rich in biodiversity, showcasing a wide array of flora and fauna within its páramo, high Andean forests, and Andean forests ecosystems. Additionally, the Sanctuary is home to lagoons and various water sources that supply the local aqueducts.
