First certification of OECMs by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan

The full operation of the certification scheme has just begun, and the MOEJ intends to improve this scheme in cooperation with the “30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity.” To officially support the conservation efforts made in sites registered as OECMs, MOEJ has also started the legislation process of the scheme and aims to submit a legislative bill to the Diet.

Actualmente el Parque Nacional VPR está postulando a la certificación internacional Lista Verde de Áreas Protegidas y Conservadas de la UICN (Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza), dirigido a aquellas áreas protegidas del mundo que demuestran hacer una gestión efectiva, medida con indicadores de diversos ámbitos, siendo la equidad de género uno de ellos. Durante su proceso de postulación, el parque fue evaluado bajo el estándar que propone Lista Verde, lo que permitió identificar las falencias o brechas de desempeño y generar planes para subsanarlas.

Voices of Change - Save the Rhino Trust

Learn about how "Save the Rhino Trust" in Namibia, have used their BIOPAMA grant to construct the fly camps situated in the rhino landscape. "The most significant change that this grant brought to the project was the upgrade of the fly camps for the Rhino ranches in trekking teams. Rhino Rangers spent 20 days away from their homes and they came at our fly camps." as said by Lorna Dax.

Developing a National Strategy for Nature Conservation Outside Protected Areas in Democratic Republic of the Congo

April 24-26, in Kinshasa,  Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), RRI collaborator ANAPAC RDC and the DRC Ministry of Forest and Ministry of State co-organized a workshop to begin developing a National Strategy for Nature Conservation Outside Protected Areas in DRC. This three-day event convened government officials, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, civil society organizations, and donors to participate in knowledge exchanges.
